Attacks on mineral convoy in Noshki: 10 vehicles set ablaze from a 60-vehicle caravan
Armed men targeted a convoy of approximately 60 vehicles transporting minerals in Balochistan’s Noshki district on Wednesday, according to local sources. The attackers set at least 10 vehicles on fire, causing significant damage and disrupting the transportation route. This incident marks another episode in a series of ongoing attacks on mineral transport in the region.
The convoy was intercepted in the Mal area of Noshki, where the assailants halted the vehicles and opened fire. Eyewitnesses reported that gunfire struck several vehicles, damaging their tires and forcing parts of the convoy to come to a halt. The attack caused chaos along the route, affecting movement and transportation of mineral resources.
During the assault, at least 10 bowser vehicles were completely burned and destroyed, while several others sustained damage. The incident resulted in considerable material losses, with initial reports estimating large-scale financial damage. However, there has been no immediate confirmation of any casualties resulting from the attack.
At the time of reporting, no group had claimed responsibility for Wednesday’s attack. Authorities and regional security officials have yet to release further details about the perpetrators or their motives. The incident adds to the increasing incidents targeting mineral transport routes in Balochistan.
This attack is part of a broader pattern of violence that has escalated in the region after the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) announced last month that it had taken “complete control” over the Quetta-Taftan highway. This key route facilitates transportation linked to major mining projects, including Saindak and Reko Diq.
The BLA issued a warning to trucks, trailers, and convoys carrying what it described as “looted Baloch resources and minerals,” prohibiting their passage through the route. Their statement emphasized that no resource transport associated with these projects would be tolerated in the region.
The group declared, “We will no longer, under any circumstances, allow trucks, trailers, or any convoys carrying looted Baloch resources and minerals to pass through here.” The ongoing violence underscores the tensions surrounding resource control and regional independence movements in Balochistan.
