NUST Quetta students allegedly expelled for refusing to stand during the Pakistani national anthem
More than 35 students at the Quetta campus of the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) have reportedly been expelled for refusing to stand or sing the national anthem of Pakistan, according to a human rights lawyer based in Quetta.
Imran Baloch shared on social media that the students did not stand during a ceremony when the national anthem was played, which led to their expulsion from the university.
He also mentioned that the affected students included both Baloch and non-Baloch students.
Furthermore, the university administration reportedly requested the students’ parents to submit special affidavits for their readmission, along with explanations for why the students did not stand during the anthem.
At the time of this report, NUST had not issued an official statement regarding the incident.
